DPC latency on the GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-H170-Gaming 3

Anyone know how good the GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-H170-Gaming 3 would be for hardcore FPS where DPC latency from either the Killer ethernet (some reviews of the previous E2200 were not good) or general board problems can reek havok.

I intend to burn an OEM windows license on my next build so Id rather not build with a mobo I'm just going to change out in a month or two if I discover it suffers from DPC issues.

In retrospect the issue with DPC latency can occur with bad drivers and has been seen on Killer NIC's, Nvidia GPU'd as well as Realtek audio solution'd systems. The most recent DPC latency fiasco began with the advent of Windows 10 so that may be an indication to avoid it for now until the OS has matured. A couple of work around is to update your BIOS, disable automatic device driver updates and running the installer in an elevated command;
Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

FYI, if you'd like hardcore FPS then you should go for a Z170 platform and an unlocked K suffix processor. If you could shoot us a budget and a preferred site of purchase then we could provide suggestions.

Why the z170 over z97? Why a K series instead of a 6500?

My budget is flexible but I try to shop the best performance/dollar/features I can. For processor I was hoping to spend $200 for a i5-6500. For mono somewhere in the $100-$155 range.

My build roughly will consist of:
-Either i5 6500 or 6600k
-Samsung 850 500gb m.2 add
-One good gpu in the $150-200 range.
-4 to 6 hard drives.

Hopefully without running out of pci-express channels or running into sacrificing issues. Of course having a few Free pci or pci express spots is helpful for the future.

What about the successor to ASRock skyoc series? They can overclock 6500 non-K sku's. Not that I require that. Would they run into pci lane issues with the h170 platform over the z170? I'm just curious. Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

Outside of the Z series platform, you can't overclock your processor or ram and for you to overclock your processor only K suffix's are allowed to do that. The chipset variation is due to the platform change courtesy of Microsoft. 100 series chipsets for SKylake and Haswell for 9 series chipset boards! If you're not buying a used GPU within 5 months then it's not a good idea to hold onto a motherboard larger than an matx. Unused slots are magnets for dirt and debris which can render them useless if neglected.

You could rather go for an matx build, more compact and with the necessary ports for HDD expansion. Lanes would be limited in the slots of the board you're looking at since the first slot is wired at 16 lanes when the second is wqired at 4 lanes which is actually enough for an NVMe SSD but if you go for a dual GPU setup then the second PCI-E x16 slot will be your bottleneck and essentially you could only go for a crossfire setup since NVidia requires at least 8 lanes to go for SLI.

You're not going to be able to put those additional PCI slots with today's peripherals. Thus the suggestion to go for an matx build.
