I made similar thread yesterday. Anyway, I did some updates to my build and would like your final thoughts before I buy.

Hi there. I have around 2000€ saved up to build a new pc. I will be using it for light video editing in after effects and doing some photoshop work + gaming at 1440p (Witcher 3, Battlefield 1, LoL, CS:GO, Assasins Creed,...)

I also have few parts from my current PC that I think I can reuse, but you let me know on that.

What I currently have:
- Processor: i5 4590
- CPU cooler: 212 evo
- SSD: 240GB
- Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H81M-D2V

What I am planning on buying:
- Graphics card: MSI GeForce GTX1080 Armor
- RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3
- PSU: Seasonic G Series 650 Watt
- Case: Fractal Design Define R5
- Monitor: Dell S2716DG
- Keyboard: Corsair Gaming K70 LUX
- Mouse: Logitech G502

What do you guys think?
Will the old motherboard and i5-4590 be fine with this gpu and 1440p gaming?

Solution
That would be probably MB/CPU/RAM - but true.
That would be relevant if you are not happy with performance - let's say you will experience freezes or FPS drops.
In that case, just use MSI afterburner to check CPU and GPU utilization. If GPU is not fully utilized, but CPU is close to 100%, than start thinking about upgrading the platform.
Again, only if the performance is annoying.
most probably, you'll have about the same performance with GTX 1070.
If you plan to upgrade your CPU/MB anytime soon, getting 16GB of DDR3 is kinda waste. But the GTX 1080 become more sensible.
Also, if you don't use optical drive, take a look at Define S - I love this case :)

I think that gtx 1080 should be good for 1440p gaming on 144hz monitor. And even this one wont reach that steady 100+ fps in all games on highest settings.

Also, which ram would you suggest? I will probably upgrade motherboard and cpu in about a year or so, when I see the need to do it.

The thing is, that your FPS will be limited by CPU performance with 1080 in many games. So you are getting a very expensive GPU that is not going to be utilized for about a year. IMHO, you will get about the same performance with 1070 for much smaller budget. Just want to make sure you have the data to make the right (for you) decision.
Regarding RAM - I'd go for 8GB if this is temporary build since it can not be reused later (like monitor, case, PSU and other components).
