Hi

I have an 860k (as seen in the title) but it seems to be overheating with the stock cooler. This only happens while playing overwatch, games such as mirrors edge provide no problems. The case gets quite hot to touch, and after a while i get a notification that my graphics card driver has stopped working (??) and it crashes overwatch and battle.net. This never happens when the side of the case is off or on other games. This still happens after the fan speed is set to its fastest in the BIOS.
Do i need to get a new cooler, if so which one? (under £20) or is it to do with overwatch?

Info about my PC:
8gb DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte geforce 750 ti OC graphics card @ stock
AMD Athlon x4 860k @ stock
Some random 500w power supply
Gigabyte f2a68hm-hd2 (I think)
windows 10 home edition

What's your case & fan situation ??

There's no need for an evo 212 with the 860k

The aidos is £13 & a great little cooler.(requires backplate removal though)

Hyper 103 £19 (quick fit - uses stock cooler mounting)

First I recommend you to monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures with a software, Speedfan does the job, but something with an OSD like MSI Afterburner is much more useful.

About the cooler I would recommend, a Hyper 212 evo, the 212X is better for the same price, but its around £30 but its worth it, I have also used the Hyper TX3 and does the job quite well.

Here is a list to help you:

You are right, the case ventilation is very important, I really forgot about it, and the reason in the end could be more about his GPU rather than the CPU, due to the video driver crashing.

Anyway tomkendall, first you should check your temps and make sure that you have enough case ventilation, otherwise a new cooler will not help you enough, 1x 120mm intake and 1x120mm exhaust as a minimum, if none of that helps then, you can consider a new cooler which madmatt30 gives very reasonable recommendations.
