thinking about another 980ti

i currently have an evga 980ti acx 2.0 sc. im about to move into an h440 and add a kraken x61 for my cpu. will 2 acx 980tis in sli be able to keep cool enough in an h440? would it be better to get a hybrid for the second card?

Always get the same card if you can, it will play much better.

If you fill all the fan slots in the H440 with fans and keep them at semi moderate RPMs in the least, then you will be fine.

my 980ti is just over a year old. i plan to wait atleast until the 1080 ti to upgrade
(plus i found a sweet deal on a 980ti)

Those fans are good, that should be enough.

As for PSU, yeah you'll need a new one. 850w at least. I recommend something along the lines of an HXi 1000W or a Supernova 850W PSU.

That's really viable, however twin GTX 980 tis are still quite a bit faster than a single 1080. It won't be until the GTX Pascal Titan launches that twin 980 ti's will meet their equal.

As a 980ti owner and seeing you only have 650W psu, sell the 980ti and get a 1080. U can not 980ti SLI on 650W, maybe maybe 850W.

Sell it and update.

if i add in another card it will use more lanes from my 4790k. will i still be able to run any pci x1 expansion cards? i currently have a wireless card and a 4 port usb 3.0 card in

This site shows suggested PSU for GPUs, and they take into account power hungry CPUs. If you go intel then you can do with less power than recommended.

That's an extremely high quality PSU. I'd 980ti SLI on it. Some people like overkill on PSU but I prefer what meets requirements and doesn't degrade.

980ti peaks at 400W; 2 x 980tis will peak at 800W + the rest of the system cpu/mb/ram/ssd/hdd etc ~1000W

do you understand that 400W peak power usage is for the 980ti VIDEO CARD ALONE as measured by Toms? 980ti uses 300W by itself on average under load and 400W peak. Next from your intelligent advice, this guy will post "my pc clicks off randomly when I play any game. Any ideas?"...

A good 850w will be fine, unless you are heavily overclocking the system and or using a 220w space heater as a cpu. I have an I7 3820 clocked at 4.3Ghz with a Gigabyte Xtreme 980ti running at 1500/7400, 4 hdds, 1 ssd, a water cooler and under full load(100% cpu and 100% gpu with furmark) and Corsairlink shows a max pull of 500w.

you are seeing 500W average per second on your kill-a-watt. There are millisecond spikes that are at least 100W to 200W higher than 1 second average readings and can easily cause system to shut down or instability if they exceed power supply max current

Also a high quality psu should be able to handle a momentary spike as thier peak wattage is rarely advertised, the advertised rating is a sustained rating. But with the ops locked i5 an 850w psu is likely going to be just fine.
