I was thinking of upgrading my pc and i want to know if i leave my old harddrive would it just transfer everything over and also would it interfere with anything like the nvidia software would it remember my old graphics card? or would everything be fine. Also im getting a gtx 980 and wanted to know what would be some good choices for the cpu and mobo, Best bang for buck

If you are asking if you can just plug in your old hard drive into a new build and boot up into Windows the answer is no.

You will need to format the drive and re-install Windows. If you do not have a retail copy of Windows, you will need to buy a new Windows license as well.

It rarely works and telling someone to do this is poor advice. As well even if it does work it causes tons of errors and runs extremely poorly. Win 10 also locks itself to your motherboard, meaning it will also be not genuine giving you additional issues.

We deal with this problem here multiple times a day. Do not waste your time trying this, as the end result is you will have to re-install windows anyway.

You can try to use your old product key but Win 10 OEM locks itself to your board, so in that case you will need a new key. Its worth trying to see if it works, but be prepared to be stuck buying a new one in the fairly likely case it does not.

Well Retail windows (like original boxed copy from the store) the product key is re-usable on a new system. OEM windows (either pre-installed or the cheaper version you buy wrapped in plastic), is not supposed to have a re-usable product key. Sometimes (rarely) it works, otherwise you need to buy a new one.

SSD and hard drive are the best combo to get, Get like a 240gb SSD to install Windows and some frequently used apps on (MS Office, Photoshop, Chrome, things like that), and a larger 7200 rpm HDD to install your games on, and save your files on to as well.

With a 240gb SSD you can even install 1 or 2 games you play frequently right on there to get the best loading times, then everything else put to the HDD.

ps. sry for all the questions... i built my pc more then a year ago and im trying not to make some of the same mistakes.

While installing games you can select where to install. Your SSD would be drive C, and you would make your secondary hard drive drive E for example.

You can default Steam if you use that to E drive, however when you are installing a game it gives you an option to change the location of the game.

Your RAM from your old system won't work, new setup requires DDR4 which I see you have speced in here.

I made some changes here, comes out to the same price:

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/dBTd6X

Gave you twice as much memory, a GTX 1070 (faster than the 980ti and cheaper), and a way better quality PSU (you don't need anywhere near 750w, the 550 I gave you is plenty and that particular 750 - EVGA NEX is not good quaity).
