I also took the libety of replacing your video card with a much better solution.

EDIT: I also took out your cooler, as the stock cooler on the xeon is quiet and sufficient. Aftermarket cooler are only merited on overclocking builds on Skylake because it runs cool.

May i ask why you want ECC RAM?

It will but i will say WAIT for the gtx1060 to come out,As it says it will pack the same amount of punch as the 980 but for less $$$ or get the 1070!
But other then that it should work fine..The mobo is LGA 1151 and the cpu too!
RAM is perfect too! BUT You won't have enough storage with that 256 SSD.It Will carry you're os and 2-3 games And thats it!Option would be to get a 1tb hard drive or even a 500gb.They aree cheap and will carry you're game ;)

Thanks a Lot , I do a lot of 3d work, so I suppose the ECC wont hurt in case of file corruption or anything similar :)
How much better is the GTX 1070 Hlsgsz?

Thanks for your response. I already have some 2tb hard drives. Just getting a SSD for operating system :)

ECC will hurt your wallet with no real benefit.

EDIT:
It's worth mentioning that older Nvidia GPUs underperform in DX12 games. This is architecture related and has been fixed in the new generation. So as games start to move to DX12 the perfromance advantage of the 1070 will only increase.
Plus, older Nvidia cards underperform in DX12 games. This is architectural and has been adressed in teh latest generation. So, as DX12 games come out, the 1070 will distance itself even further. Add to this the extra 2 gigs of vram and this is a no-brainer.

Thanks again, so you'd recommend the same rig with non-ECC ram? or non-ECC ram and a different Motherboard?

This is what i recommend:

Your money is alot better spent on fast, non-ECC memory for 3d rendering.

Thank you for your help, I will use that build! My vendor only has the GTX 1070 8gb Armor edition, is that the same thing?

Thank you for all of your help, everything is ordered. I ordered slightly slower RAM to match budget, i will add more RAM later - will it be okay to use 32gb ddr4 2400 ram and another 32gb ddr4 3200 ram together?

No. It could work, but only at 2400Mhz. Your best bet for compatibility is to order the exact same kit again and add that.
