Hello, I recently bought the pieces to build a new pc and was able to succesfully make it work. Everything worked well until I installed windows. After that I installed every driver that came on the CDs that came with the motherboard and graphic card. After that I started having a lot of trouble... Windows freezes even though I can move the mouse. I cannot close programs or restart or shut down the pc when this happens. It won't let me install any driver, most of the times it gives me an error, that I can't even google on that PC due to Chrome crashing. I don't think it's a hardware issue, since everything is new. Played some games, without sound because for some reason I can't make it work, and it worked fine. Have a couple of programs that clean and repair errors, and one to keep up with drivers, which I thought would help me install the missing ones, which it did, but obviously I'm missing some, I can't use some USB ports without restarting, and audio just doesn't work. Help me Tomshardware, you're my only hope.

Hi Dukes91 :)

Which version of Windows have you installed.?
If windows 7 then maybe you need the Service packs installed and updated.
You are having driver issues and there are ways for us to determine that and also see if any corruption of your system files has occurred. It can be a lengthy trouble shooting process depending on what the issue is however lets hope we can find it soon.

Please respond.

Hello, thank you for the quick answer!
Aye, I have Windows 7, and I tried installing Service Packs but it just gets stuck at the end and I can't even cancel it to try again because it freezes again. I have not tried a second time... so I could try until it does. How could I help you determine if there's any corruption on the system files? What program can I use to log these problems?

As there are many updates to the service pack. Do the updates a little at a time, not all at once and group them by date.
If you are interested in the free upgrade to Windows 10, then you will have to be quick as it ends on 29 July.
I can assist you with the upgrade if you wish.

I'm not too fond of Windows 10 because of all the privacy issues that have been reported since its release. I don't mind it that much, but prefer windows 7 or 8. I do not know how to do them a little at a time however, I went into the website and just saw one update. For the record the one I installed was Service Pack 1, never finished installing, I left it at night and came back in the morning and it was still at the end after 8 hours. Waited some more, still at the end. Nothing worked.

There was only ever one service pack, SP1 with many updates and you can select which of the updates to apply.

As far as the upgrade. You can choose how private you are. If you do not wish to have your private details stored on the cloud. ie Cortana. then you don't have to.

Remember that W7 will no longer be supported soon and W8 is a dog of an OS. Some issues resolved with 8.1 however W10 is more stable now that a lot of drivers have been sorted.

Even if you are reluctant to upgrade to W10 it would be advisable to get the ISO from MS and burn it to a DVD or USB.
Knowing MS, they may discontinue the Media creation tool and many have had bad experience with the Auto update via internet.

Your problem is updating the SP1 updates and many have had your problem.
You must first have the updates completed to upgrade to W10. Remember a few at a time and the updates will complete. It can take a few goes and sometimes it will tell you that there has been an error and the update failed, just keep trying.

How can I do that? When I went to update that it gave me one option to download, I downloaded they option I was given and I installed that. It failed to install. Could you give me a link? I probably dowloaded wrong, since I cannot recognize these options you're telling me about.

ummmm, if it's skylake you need to install the hotfix provided by the motherboard manufacture first, then install the chipset driver. Do those two drives first from the CD. Then you can install the drives and programs in whatever order you want. If you don't do it in this order you brick your system until you do it in the right order
