As the title says, I have an ASUS Z87 Plus mobo. The rest of my specs are to the left here under my icon.

The motherboard has six USB 3.0 on the rear panel, two USB 3.0 mid board accessible through the case front, and two USB 2.0 mid board also accessible through case front.

So that makes ten total USB ports on the board: eight USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0

I'm running Windows 10 64 bit. On the ASUS site under driver support for the Z87 Plus it doesn't show any USB drivers for Windows 10. ASUS does have USB drivers for Win 8xx and previous:

So right now I'm just running with USB drivers that Win 10 installed on the installation of the OS.

I have had both Win 7 and Win 10 installed on the board. So here are some comparison numbers.

Here is a bench of a 7200 HGST HDD in an external USB 3 box, under Win 7, with the available Win 7 ASMedia and Intel drivers installed. This is the rear panel USB 3.0 port:

Now here is a bench of the same 7200 HGST HDD drive, same external box, same USB 3 port, in Win 10 with just Win 10's ID'd drivers installed.

Read numbers are OK but the Write numbers are about 2.0 speeds. Those above bench numbers are approx the same for four of the six rear ports (USB 3.0). Real time file transfers in WIn 10 (4GB movie) confirm the above speeds.

And for a comparison of even worse numbers... here is a 7200 Seagate HDD in an external USB 3.0 box, same port as above HGST, in Win 7 with the correct Win 7 drivers installed, from the ASUS site:

Great numbers.

Here is the same drive now in Win 10 with no drivers installed (the drive letter is different as I labelled it different in Win 7 & 10)

Horrible.

Here is a screenshot of how things look in Device Manager. The only two things installed are a wireless mouse and wireless keyboard, via the front USB 2.0 ports.

So some questions:

Could I use the Win 7 64 bit Intel and Asmedia drivers from the ASUS site for my Win 10 64 bit OS?
Is there somewhere else I could get the drivers?
Am I on the right track here, or is there also something else I'm missing?

Solution
USB drivers are built-in to Windows as they always have been, and Windows 10 also supports USB 3.0 natively so no external drivers are required.

USB 3.0 drivers will only be found on the mobo maker's website when you select an OS that does not support USB 3.0 natively (ie Windows 7 or earlier).
