Hi guys, my pc reboots frequently after I did a clean install, I'm sure is a hardware issue because I already tried reinstalling two versions of Ubuntu and Win 7. Before this problem started my pc was doing fine with a dual boot (Win 7 and Ubuntu 14) for almost 1 year and 9 months.
If I leave my pc rest I can use it for a couple of hours then it reboots, so if I keep trying to use the pc after that, it begins to reboot more frequently until you can't pass the POST process (when the windows logo appears), I can't even reach the logon screen in windows safe mode, so the more time I leave it rest the more time I can use it.
I already disabled automatic reboot, successfully passed memtest86, reconnected PSU, reinstalled in another HDD, changed SATA ports and exchanged SATA cables, tried CPU perf tests. Unfortunately I don't have a backup PSU to test.
My build is the next:

  • Intel i4790k
    Gigabyte z97x black ed.
    Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb
    Xfx ts 750w gold
    Hyper 212 EVO
    Western Blue 1tb
I hope you guys can help me to find out what is going on.

Solution

That's strange, thought for sure it was overheating. While your voltages don't look unusual to me, I would recommend getting a new psu to test. It could very well be a failing psu.

Ok, sounds like you want to check your cpu temps as you have made no mention to check that. Could be caused by overheating, happening more frequently as the cpu gets hotter and hotter. Heat should be the only reason letting a computer rest for a period of time would make it work.

Highest temp that I see when performing tests like PassMark PerformanceTest and Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool is 60c.
Please take a look of my temps when I only running web browser and just 2 more apps, maybe my volts are unusual.

I also resetted CMOS.

It seems like a motherboard problem to me. I imagine that if it was a PSU problem then you wouldn't be able to get past POST everytime not just once in a while. If it is a mobo problem then just get a new one or if you're short on cash and want to DIY this then see if there's any blown capacitors on the mobo and replace them

Hi thanks for helping me, I want to completely discard the possibility of a faulty PSU but I only have a generic 600w PSU available, do you think that generic PSU would support my i7 4790k (turbo mode disabled), ga z97x ud5h bk, corsair vengeance 2x4gb and western blue 1tb?

Hi again,
I didn't try with another PSU but 8 days ago I removed CPU, reapplied thermal paste, cleared CMOS and that apparently were the solution until today. Today my pc restarted again, it happen more frequently if I skip through a video on VLC or when I open a Chrome window but if I just don't do anything, it can stay on for more time.
Also if turbo mode is disabled I can use my pc for more time but reboots still happen.
So, It could be that cpu is causing this behaviour?
Please any advice would be appreciated.

Still sounds like overheat, just by you saying that if you disable turbo boost it stays on longer. Reason for that would be that by disabling turbo boost you are running the cpu at a lower clock which reduces heat making it take longer to reach its thermal limit. You might not be reporting the right cpu temp, maybe a bad thermal sensor?

A bad thermal sensor could be possible. On BIOS I enabled warning through the speaker when CPU temp goes over 70°c but until now, no warnings at all.

After RMAing CPU, Rams, Mobo and PSU (i still had a year of warranty) they told me that PSU was causing reboots, so they're giving me another PSU of my choice. If anyone had my same problem, test with another PSU.
Thank you for all your help guys, I'm just waiting to test my pc with the new PSU, so I can choose a failing PSU as the solution.
