Is my gpu bottlenecking my cpu?

Solution

I have to agree, that i3 6100 recommended will get you better single threaded performance and allow use of pcie 3.0 which I would recommend having for future upgrades due to the vast performance jumps seen in the newest gpu's.

Also note if you go with the i3, you have room to expand to better cpu's in the future due to the fresh new socket. The am3+ socket of the fx 6300 is at the end of life. Amd's Zen chips will be am4, leaving you no room to expand in the future.

Finally, as with your original question, I wouldn't say a fx 6300...

A fx 8370 would be fine but like I said your better with a socket not at its end of life. People get really good rigs by gradual upgrades, something that will be hard with a dead socket that performs WAY worse that the latest on the market / future amd zen.
