Inconsistent FPS drop and audio distortion while gaming

I have an MSI GE72 2QD Apache with an i7-4720HQ and a 960m 2GB.
Recently I'm getting enormous framedrops (60 to 9 for example) for like 2 seconds at most.
When I start gaming and my CPU is still fairly cool (around 50 degrees), the game runs fine for maybe 10 minutes and then the framedrops and audio distortion occur.
They both occur at the same time so I assume there's something causing the "interference".
I used MSI Aferburner to see what's going on and at the moments the framedrops and audio distortions occur, I see my CPU activity jump to 99% for 2 seconds.
GPU usage stays normal when this happens.
The weird thing is that this only happens while gaming.
It doesn't matter what game really whether it's from 2006 or 2016.
When my CPU is just idle I don't have those spikes to 99%.
I've heard from some people it could be a bitcoinminer so I started running a bunch of scans on a variety of programs but without result.
Sorry for the big chunk of text but I wanted to be as clear as possible.
Thanks in advance guys.

Solution
You need to check your CPU/GPU temperature during the game.
I'd suggest you to Check temperature with MSI Afterburner, also donot use "High Performance" for gaming because Turbo Boost makes CPU more hott and results in FPS Drops.
Try MSI Afterburner ( tho you need to set those on screen display for CPU / GPU Temperature).
Easy way would be to open HWMonitor in the background, play the game for like 10 minutes then check the temperature in the MAX column field.

Have a look at the cpu frequency while it jumps to 99%.
Have a look at the taskmanager while the spikes are happening. Which process or app is responsible for it?

which operating system is it?
all updates done? search for new updates via windows update

run 3dmark basic edition (firestrike) and post the link which comes up at the end with your browser
