Hi guys. Just got parts for my compact gaming pc today and finally put them all together. However, the system will not post, will not beep (yes I have a small speaker installed), and the fans spin.

Pretty common problem, I know.

Here is the system:

CPU: i5 6500
Mobo: Asus H110I-Plus (mini ITX)
GPU: R9 280X
Ram: 8GB corsair vengeance LPX, 2400MHz (potential problem here, I realised after I bought the parts that the mobo only supports 2133mhz ram).
HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda (7200rpm).
PSU: Modular XFX XTR 650w
Case: Coolermaster Elite 130
Cooler: Corsair H75

So as I said above, system won't post. It won't even beep if I take all the ram out.

What I have confirmed:

1) power to CPU via 4 pin power plug
2) ram is properly seated
3) cpu was inserted correctly into the socket, with the tabs on the socket making sure that it can only fit one way
4) Cooler is properly installed, with thermal paste (this was pre-applied so it wasn't a bungled up job that I did).

What I have tested:
1) currently do not have GPU installed, plugging screen directly into mobo.
2) unplugged everything so only mobo and cpu are connected. No beeps.
3) used only one stick of ram in both slots.
4) used no sticks of ram to try and get a few beeps out of it (didn't work)

What I have noticed:
1) even though I have the case power light plugged into the motherboard, it does not light up when I turn it on.
2) reset button doesn't work, even though it's connected.

I've personally come to the conclusion that this is a dud motherboard. Am going to return it tomorrow and get a slightly more expensive one from Gigabyte, since my current mobo in my working computer is fantastic and incidentally is made by Gigabyte too.

Any info or ideas to test meanwhile would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
Ok well it turns out that there was a broken pin on the motherboard socket. No idea how it was broken as I installed it incredibly carefully. Got a new mobo and booted first go :)
