Hey guys my evga 970 ftw died and I have a store credit in my pc store
thinking about going all out and getting a 1080

My pc specs are:
- Amd fx 8350 @ 4.6ghz
- Nzxt Kraken x61
- Gigabyte 990fx Gaming mobo
- 16gb Ram
- 2tb WD black
- 850 evo 250gb
- 24" 1080p screen (want to upgrade later aswell to 2k)

I really don't want to upgrade pc at the moment. just the graphics card, would
having a 1080 in my system for a while be worth it. until I can upgrade later on in the year?

Solution
While it's a not good match CPU wise, I do this all the time, upgrade to a non matching component and carry it over when I have money for better stuff. Generally I get good enjoyment out of whatever I'm buying and as I upgrade I get more of a kick out of my gear. Higher end cards tend to have longer life spans anyhow. I use my GPU mostly for compute and I'm still rocking a 7990.

True that.. Never had anything but amd my whole life but have seen proof that Intel improves some games massivly and other games amd is the same.. Just hope 8350 doesn't bottleneck it to the point where it performs the same or just a little better then 970
