G3258 vs Phenom II X4 940?

So which one would be better? I'm thinking of going to the G3258 but dual core troubles me. And since I would take the cheapest motherboard that supports this CPU I wouldn't probably be good with overclocking it.

I use my PC for about everything. Sometimes video encoding, sometimes games (Battlefield (4, 3, BC2), GTA (4 and 5), Skyrim, Don't Starve) also some programming, photoshop & illustrator, browsing.

I already got 8GBs of DDR3 ram so I wouldn't need to buy it.

My actual question: will I be better off using the Phenom or the Pentium for my needs with 8GBs of ram that I got. I also plan on buying GT740 because I really don't need anymore and I found a pretty good deal on it. I have a 900p monitor now but plan on taking a 1080p.

If anything is unclear I will try clear it up.
Thanks.

Solution
The G3258 is better, hugely faster single core speen when overclocked, you can also pick up a $43 mobo to overclock it to 4.5GHz on the stock cooler.
Goto youtube and look at videos of the games you play with G3258 and x4 940. See which you like better. Figure the total price with MB for both.

You can always upgrade the g3258 to an i5 if you need to later. I have a g3258 because it came essentially free with a z97 MB ($99 for both). I use it in a cheap B85 MB, and it OCs to 4ghz at 1.2v on the fairly good stock cooler. That said, I would not buy a G3258, I would buy an i3 instead. That gets rid of later doing an i5 upgrade (too small an improvement for $$ - prices for older i5s do not drop) but likely gives you a PC with enough CPU for games for a few years.

I don't think there are plenty videos for the x4 940 on youtube. Especially for a new game that might come out and I might like.

I have decided to keep the Phenom for now. When I get more money I will buy something faster.

I know but it's enough for me.

@Trafalgar747
things are more expensive where I live, so that won't happen. But I do have an Arctic Freezer Extreme, my 125w Phenom never goes above 60 celsius with it.
