I currently have a Fx6300 running stock but I'm wondering on if I should upgrade. The new Cpu I'm looking at is the Fx8350. Either way I'm going to overclock the Cpu's but I'm wondering how big of a difference it is between a overclocked Fx8350 and Fx6300.

Thanks for your help

My current rig.
Mobo: Msi 970 Gaming Motherboard
GPU: Msi R9 380 running stock (will be oc)
Cpu: Amd Fx6300 running stock (will be oc)
Ram: 2x4Gb 16000M/hz sticks
Cpu cooler: Stock cooler (will get a new one soon)
Case: Deepcool Kendomen (will get Fractal Define S)

You might get better results with the FX 6300, because you never know how high the overclock will be. The 6300 might get a higher stable overclock than the 8350.
The only way the 8-core will be much better is in case you utilize all its cores in (some of) your applications, for example in video editing.

If you are not using applications/games that will fully utilize the 8-core, invest in a good overclocking cooler. You don't mention your PSU, but a good PSU will also enable you to get a higher stable overclock.

Overclocking is fine, but changing processor to 8350 is not worth it. In your situation- I would either
a) mildly overclock the 6300 for now, and get Zen/6core i7 in winter,
or
b) get a cooler now, and overclock 6300 a lot.

I currently got a Evga 600w Bronze Psu right now and I mainly game on my computer. So you would recomend just getting a cooler and overclock the 6300?

It's technically 2 tiers up, so the 8350 (or better yet 8370) would be a decent CPU upgrade. And even if your software can't take advantage of your extra cores, you at least get a boost to your stock core speeds, plus a better stock cooler (as the newer 8350s & 8370s are being sold with the Wraith cooler).

That being said, if you're planning to OC your system anyway, it might not be a bad idea to just save the money for now & try OC'ing your 6300 first. For one thing, it'll let you experiment with the settings on your board. For another, if you do decide down the road to upgrade to an octa-core FX chip, you'll already have the aftermarket cooler to be able to OC from the get-go.
