Ethernet Cable Routing

So I recently moved my PC into a different room. There is no Ethernet pre-routed into the room, and I had the same problem before I moved aswell. What I did was route the cable on the ceiling of our basement (which is not finished, my family built this house) to roughly the spot where my PC was. We drilled a hole and fished the Ethernet cable through and used a coupler. I don't feel like that is a very good solution, so I was wondering if you people have any input on how to go about this.

Here are some photos to hopefully help explain (sorry for horrible quality, only had my smartphone with me)

This is the underside of the desk, ignore the horrible cable management, I am waiting to redo it until I get the Ethernet. I am planning on drilling into the floor.

This is what I did for the old spot. The blue cable coming out of the closer floor cover is the ethernet.

This is where the Ethernet cable/coupler goes up to our upstairs. Like I said, our basement isn't finished yet, so I can just route it under the floorboards. Because the image quality is so bad, I will try to explain what is happening. I have the cable run across our basement ceiling being held on by little cable clips. It goes up through the hole I drilled into the floor and then goes to the coupler.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks in advance!

Well first off, instead of putting the jack in the floor I would always recommend going through the wall. Carpet has to be replaced, and you don't want to add additional obstacles for tile or wood floors either; thus putting it in the wall makes it much easier (and drywall is easier to repair/patch latter). Making a cutout for single gang low voltage box/racket, then you can either drill down from inside the wall, or if you can find the wall you can drill up from the basement. Then fishing the cable through is pretty simple for the 2-3 ft of distance.

Cable staples or clips is find for holding it to ceiling for a few Ethernet lines if you don't plan on finishing the basement.
If you do plan on finishing the basement then you would...

If you do plan on finishing the basement then you would basically need to drill a hole through every wood support along the way.
If you find yourself adding more Ethernet drops in the future then get an Ethernet switch and put it downstairs, even better to put in a structured media cabinet and then run your Ethernet to the rooms from that.
Here is a picture of my media encloses (this is in my office and not in a basement though)
