I currently have a 1TB Seagate Barracuda linked up to the 6GB per sec SATA port on the motherboard as this HDD supports it but I was wondering would an SSD be faster than this hard drive because I could do with more speed as it would help to load textures in ARMA 3 which will remove some of the stuttering I'm experiencing.

Yes, an SSD will be faster overall. While a SATA SSD may not have a significantly higher linear read rate (e.g. copying a single large file), it will have a significantly faster seek time (virtually zero) as it has no moving parts to contend with. It's why a computer running the OS on an SSD will boot in 5 seconds compared to a full 1 minute off a HDD. So for loading a lot of small files, which I assume those textures might be, it'd possibly be faster. Most games are optimized to minimize drive access during gameplay, but that's not to say all games are well coded this way.
