I know its not released yet and is expected to outperform the 980 but will two GTX 970s compete with the GTX 1060? I bought a new GTX 970 in March and want to play Battlefield 1 this fall on an i5-6600k.

Any speculations on dual 970 vs 1060?

I'm thinking that the GTX 970 Sli will be the way to go then...as prices are probably going to drop further and I've only gotten 4 months out of my current 970. Thank you!

You will win benchmarks with sli.
But, gameplay will be better with a single strong card.
If you are playing at 1080P, you should do reasonably well with a GTX970.
I would see how you do before making any premature changes.
And... you will need about a 700w psu for sli GTX970.

If you want more graphics power, consider selling the GTX970 and look at a GTX1080.

SLI has strict requirements, so I would ensure you meet those before going that route.

From the purely theoretical side, SLI 970's will win in a competition against a GTX 1060, however that is only in titles where SLI is available. Since not all titles support SLI, only you can decide if you are going to play titles that will benefit from the SLI setup.

From a subjective point of view, some folks claim they don't like the performance or behavior of SLI because it doesn't feel as smooth as a single card does. Again, only you can decide if this is an issue for you.

Thank you all for the input. I think I'll have to wait and see how the single 970 performs and then make a decision based upon that. I'm currently running a Corsair RMx850 PSU (I bought extra when I built the system because I got it for $90 and was thinking of SLI down the line). I've never SLI'd or Cross Fired before but I have friends who swear by it--I've always felt a single GPU was better. I am definitely intrigued by the 1060 though even though it won't be able to SLI simply because the price point is so competitive. I got excited about the RX480 until I realized it was basically a GTX 970 so the pushing up of the timeline for the GTX1060 (which I thought would start way out of my price range) has me wondering if it wouldn't be better to just sell the 970 and pick up a 1060 or pick up another 970 on the cheap in a few months.

I appreciate the input. I guess I'll wait and see!
