I am looking at getting a new video card and saw that the GTX 960s have dropped quite a bit recently. I am hoping to get into 4K gaming, but don't want to lose my second monitor.

Right now I am using 2x 1080p, but not extending the image across both. One monitor usually has my game running and the second will have my Ventrilo/Teamspeak open with web browser open.

I am wanting the 4K to be my primary gaming monitor and one of my 1080p monitors will continue to house the web browser and various other uses while gaming.

Is the GTX 960 4GB able to handle this?

Would I be better off with 2560x1440? Or would I suffer too big of a hit with that resolution as well?

If you check out this review of the 1070 you can see a bunch of other cards benchmarked in there as well, including a GTX 960: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/nvidia_geforce_gtx_1070_review,1.html

It appears it averages 30-40 FPS at 1440p in a lot of games. But if you turned down the eyecandy it would probably get to more respectable 45FPS in a lot of games. Who knows how long that would last though. Overall, not terrible.

With a 960 you can hardly play games at 1440p . How do you expect to run 4k and 1080p at the same time? A 1080 can run 4k games at max with 50fps .if add and a 1080p monitor the 1080 would have hard time dealing with this. Expect the fps to drop at 30. May you should be good with two 1070 . If you can afford two 1080s. You can also get a 1440p monitor and run these two with a single 1080 and get more than 60 fps in games. :D hope this was helpful.
