The odd thing is I can boot from a live Linux distribution on USB stick, plug the sata drive into the MB, and install the distro but for some reason the bios does not see any SATA devices, only when I boot from USB are they seen. The system boots up really slowly when sata is plugged in, like it takes forever for the bios to post, but starts up normally if no SATA devices are plugged in.

I have tried both a SSD and a normal mechanical drive. I thought maybe my mobile was dead but everything else I tested and seems to work. I found someone with a power supply issue but it seems to power everything fine. Any ideas?

Oh, I posted another post about this mobo forgetting bios settings but can't find anything in the bios that would affect this. I am still thinking of getting a new MB to turn it over to my parents but need this one running for the time being.

Hey there, second_exodous.

Besides trying out different drives you should also try different SATA ports and cables, as it might be a faulty port or cable. You should make sure that both drives are in a good condition.
There could be something wrong with the SATA controller, or the BIOS, or the PSU as you've already mentioned. Try updating or resetting the BIOS/UEFI, to see if that helps. Try the mobo with a different PSU if possible. Make sure that everything is properly connected when you plug all the cables.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
