Since you have not specified these steps, let's start with the basics:
1. Log into your router and check the SSID, make sure you memorize it or write it down, if you're not broadcasting
2. Manually add the wireless network using the SSID as the network's name
3. If step 2 results with a duplicate network, or asks you to use the already existing network, cancel the setup; delete the existing; and then add again
4. Ensure you're using the correct encryption type (or login to the router and disable the encryption, temporarily, while you troubleshoot)
5. Ensure you're entering the correct password (or login to the router and disable the password, temporarily, while you troubleshoot)
Here's some advanced troubleshooting:
1. If you're not the network admin (yes, I realize this is a home network, but someone still manages or at least setup the network), find out if there is a MAC filter setup on the router. If so, provide your MAC address (also known as Physical Address) to have your computer added to the filter. In cases where MAC filtering is setup, you can join the network with the correct credentials, but still not be able to reach the internet.
2. Put your computer next to the router to rule out interference.
3. Try changing the channel your router is broadcasting on.
4. Disable any network management utilities (Intel PROSet, for example)
5. Update WiFi driver
