So, my current motherboard only has one gpu slot and only dual channel RAM slots. I'm looking to upgrade to a motherboard with crossfire support and quad channel RAM slots. However I can't find any 3rd gen motherboards on sale that will be compatible with my i5 3470. Are there any haswell based boards that are backwards compatible? Thanks in advance.

Having four slots doesn't mean you will have quad channel or better memory performance (it will still be dual channel). In fact it may be harder on your memory controller than running just two sticks. Also, if you factor in the price of another graphics card, possibly a bigger PSU, the expense of a new Windows copy unless you have a retail version, you could just as cheaply sell the RAM and graphics card you have now and then buy a bigger RAM kit and more powerful graphics card. The new cards are more power efficient, and a $250.00 RX 480 has performance equivalent to a GTX 970.

Thanks for the fast reply dude. The problem is I can't find any of these motherboards available online and I really don't see the worth in upgrading from ivy bridge to Haswell or Skylake.

Because of Nvidias MSRP in the UK 2x Rx 480s comes cheaper than a single gtx 1070. However if it prevents me from needing to change cpu, ram and motherboard it may actually be cheaper. I might just wait until AMD release their Zen cpus thanks for your help anyway man.
