Build:
CPU Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard Asus Z87-Pro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory
Storage Samsung 850 EVO-Series 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Founders Edition Video Card
Power Supply EVGA 1000W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

I spent this afternoon putting together my new gaming rig, but I'm running into a problem that's really got my confused. Basically no matter what I've tried I can't get any confirmation from the motherboard, which is making me think it's hosed.

  • * Currently, the the chassis fans, CPU fan, and motherboard LEDs will light up and remain so. No BIOS post or motherboard beeping.

    * Powersupply comes with PSU tester, and this works (the PSU turns on with only the fan).

    * Swapped in my old PSU (650watt corsair) - ATX + EPS12V and same results (no post or beep).

    * Checked CPU placement and placed it again.

    * Checked RAM, swapped them, and left one stick in (even tried none hoping this would generate an error).

    * I was gifted two parts that were thought to be defective. PSU and motherboard. I RMA'd them both and received new parts this week. Everything else is new.

Things left to try (a) new PSU on old rig (b)...I dunno thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestion. I removed the mobo and powersupply from the case and placed them on a wooden table.

Powered up mobo both without GPU and RAM and nothing has changed. This time around I did notice that the CPU LED is red, which seems to indicate a CPU issue. CPU is brand new (purchased from Microcenter yesterday).

Pins, notches, and gold arrow are aligned...and I've re-seated it 3-4 times now. I wish I had a proper spare CPU to test only the mobo....without that my only option is visit Microcenter and replace my CPU.

Any other ideas?

I would try a different Motherboard first. It would be cheaper than another CPU or you might find a friend who could lone you a spare for testing. I personally would go with a z97 over the z87.
