While the 960 will do alot to help, the i3 is still core limited. How many 'lines' things can process through at the same time like when you 'checkout' at a grocery store during busy time, more 'lines open' the faster you check out, but if only TWO lines are open you have to 'wait' to process your order. SAME for a computer. Your best bet would be to Swap out the CPU for a i5-6xxx model, if you wish to not have problems (slow lagging, doesn't matter how low the graphics is, still occurs because the CPU can only process so much).

Now the ONLY issue would be if you did upgrade, is this a OEM (Dell, HP, etc.) computer? If so the OEM edition of Windows will prevent you from using it with the new CPU, because it was ONLY to be sold with a...

If so the OEM edition of Windows will prevent you from using it with the new CPU, because it was ONLY to be sold with a i3-6100 CPU and the Mobo installed. You would then also have to wipe the system and install a clean STORE BOUGHT edition of Windows, to register that instead of the OEM with your new CPU. Just a heads up.
