Hey guys! First cheers for reading, I'm not really a techie person so whilst my friends helped me pick most of the below I would like other opinions:

First of all my current aging pc is an old hp p6-2060uk model with two differences of a gtx 760 and evga 600W power supply, both of which I intend to use in the newer build. Additionally I hope to use the hard drive from my the hp which is around 1.5TB.

The below are what I am currently planning on buying:

  • Intel Core i5 4690K Processor (3.5 GHz, 6 MB Cache, LGA1150 Socket) (Amazon £197.99)
    MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard (4x DDR3, 6x USB3.0, 8x USB2.0, GBE, LAN, HDMI, DVI, VGA) (Amazon £113.62)
    HyperX Savage 480 GB SATA 3 2.5 (7 mm) SSD - Black/Red (Amazon £113.58)
    HyperX FURY 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 1866 MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM Memory Module Kit - Red (Amazon £57.99)
Cooler Master RR-212E-16PK-R1 Hyper 212 Evo "Ultra High Performance, 4 Direct Contact Heat Pipes, Universal CPU Cooler" Black Fan (Amazon £28.98)
Phanteks Eclipse P400 Black Midi Tower Gaming Case - USB 3.0 (Amazon £59.95)

I'm currently planning on buying them all on Amazon which comes in at a total of £572.11, however if you know of cheaper alternatives please let me know I really don't want to spend more then I have to. That said I will also need to add on the cost of a network adapter since I googled that the above does not include one, so if you guys can recommend one I would be even more grateful.

The set up will be used for games from counter strike to the witcher and, more recently, overwatch along with other games as they come out (e.g. Dishonored 2).

If you have any suggestions please let me know!

Many thanks.

Nothing wrong with your build. I would only suggest using the latest generation parts for DDR4 and more features found on the Z170 chipset boards.

Hey man thanks for the quick response! I see what you mean with using the newer things, I didn't realise it had switched up to DDR4, and the site you had was awesome so: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/8BhtgL which is as it says around £650 (£30 cashback from bt though) somewhat above what I was looking at and above your suggested model for the earlier price.

Could you tell me in brief the difference between the two ssds? The OCZ TRION 150 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive and the one I have tempoarily selected? The specs look the same so I'll probably head with your one, but currently just left it till I know the difference.

I'm also curious would I be able to add my old pc's original hardware to it? The hardrive shiould be okay, but I'm curious whether it will let me add the ram (6 gb: 2 and 4) and perhaps the old graphics card which I think it a Nvidia GT 530. Would this hardware work with the build? If not I'm not so bothered, but merely curious.

The higher price isn't so bad but it will mean I will wait a couple of weeks extra or so before getting it.

The only knock on the SSD is the price, performance is close enough you would never be able to tell the difference. It does have a year longer warranty, but not worth the difference in price. You can re use your older HDD, but the RAM won't work and the integrated HD 530 graphics of the i5 are better than the GT 530 graphics card. If you're not going to overclock, you could save quite a bit of money on the CPU and motherboard and by using a smaller SSD and less expensive case.

Awesome cheers I'll start putting down the changes now, pretty sure I will end up overclocking though not imminiently true.

Regarding what I mentioned about the graphics card, I worded it poorly, but I was curious if I could run it alongside the gtx 760 just for the sake of extra performance even though it is ancient. Would both cards work simultaneously or would they not because they are different models? Rather then using just one of them. Though if you say it is now even worse then the intel graphics I guess there is no real poiunt haha.
