Okay, I've done some research on this topic but I have an MSI 760 gma p34 fx motherboard ( https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/760GMA-P34-FX.html#hero-overview ). It clearly states that 125 watt cpu's are supported but I want to know if it is safe to use an fx 8350 with a cooler master hyper 212 evo in my system. I decided to go with amd so that I wouldn't have to buy a new mobo but now that i see everyone saying it's not compatible I think I'm screwed. Please help.

Solution
You're going to have massive problems with power delivery if you use that motherboard. There are only four phases and none of them have a heatsink.

Try something like the Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0... It has a 6+2 phase power delivery system and the whole thing is connected to a heatsink.
That CPU is not your problem... That motherboard is going to have problems with anything in the FX lineup (which is the only CPU lineup by AMD that holds any ground against Intel).

You can get little copper heatsinks to put on the VRMs, which will stop them from overheating from increased power draw, but I can't say that four phases is enough for even a FX 4100. Sorry mate.

You either need to give up the power of the FX lineup, or get a more capable motherboard.

Thanks for your help. Even though it's bad news because I'm on a budget and I've already purchased the processor, a new power supply, ram, and a new cooler....400+ dollars :(

please look at that last comment..I forgot to make it a reply. Thanks

The 4350 does not game all that well and to be honest, I recommend changing the board and getting an 8350. Or go Intel if you have the money.

To directly answer your question, the 4350 will not damage the system, but you will get poor performance as your motherboard will struggle to deliver steady power.
