Howdy!

I am building my first PC for my birthday (yay) and put everything in place and... nothing. Well, the mobo lights up, fans spin up, and then the boot gets stuck on the RAM. :(

(the ASUS mobo has LED lights for boot progress, CPU is good, then it gets stuck on the DRAM LED light)

My specs:
Asus H170 ProGaming motherboard
i5 6600 CPU
Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (x1) RAM
GeForce GTX 960
Cooler Master GeminII S524 V2
Corsair CX600
Seagate 2TB SSHD (currently unplugged for troubleshooting)

And, yes, the 8 pin CPU plug is in :) as is the 24 ATX plug. I've also loosened the mobo screws a little because I read elsewhere that that might be the problem.

I've tried putting the RAM stick in every slot, and nothing. I realize the mobo only supports 2133mhz RAM (mine is 2400mhz) but I'm reading online that that shouldn't be an issue?

Please help!! I am at a complete loss for what to do now :(

Hi,

"I've tried putting the RAM stick in every slot, and nothing. I realize the mobo only supports 2133mhz RAM (mine is 2400mhz) but I'm reading online that that shouldn't be an issue?"
It is an issue.

"but I'm reading online that that shouldn't be an issue?"
Where have you read it?

I already ordered one directly off of the motherboard's approved memory vendor list. Funny, the brand and model of RAM I got is on this list, just not in the 16GB format. It does support 16GB memory sticks, though, and the vendor list also says that higher mhz RAM will work, just not at higher than 2133, which is fine I just want it to turn on at this point!

Corsair Value Select 8GB - Picked one straight off of the Qualified Vendor List for the motherboard (literally copied and pasted the serial #) and tried it in every RAM slot.

ASUS support also suggested resetting the CMOS, which I also did, to no avail. It's sounding more and more like a motherboard issue :(

check the cpu in correctly and no bent pins on the motherboard socket,

also make sure cooler is on strait and you didn't tighten the cooler down to much(this can cause slight warping leading to issues I have actually seen a bunch of issues relating to just the cooler not being installed just right on intel cpus on this fourm. guess intel didn't get everything right when it was designing the socket)

Motherboard supports DDR4 2133MHz 4 DIMM, dual-channel and supports XMP

Even if you got a pack of 4x4GB just sticking one stick in the first slot would work, you have a to high frequency RAM that is your issue

You also have a rubbish tier 4 PSU

I already checked the CPU pins - everything looks good there.

I've actually tried playing around with how the cooler is installed, rotating it to a couple different positions, making sure not to tighten the cooler too much - just enough for the cooler to securely support itself. I also loosened my motherboard screws, since that was coming ups as a common solution. Still nothing :(

I already tried clearing the CMOS and trying all the slots again :/

All sources I'm finding are saying that the frequency of the RAM would just be lowered automatically and would still boot up. Regardless, I already bought a new stick of RAM straight off ASUS's Qualified Vendor List for the motherboard and still nothing.

Thanks for your input on my PSU, but that doesn't really help me much unless you think the PSU is causing the problem.
