Hi guys,

I'm considering upgrading my system's GPU and RAM, I've haven't kept up with new hardware/trends for several years now so just need alittle bit of help/guidance.

My intention is to get better performance with current gaming titles as this system is starting to struggle. Resolution 1080p

Current Specs (built April 2012)
CPU: i5-3570k
GPU: Sapphire 7850 HD
MOBO: Z77-D3H
RAM: DDR3 8GB
OPS: Windows 10
SSD: 120GB
PSU: Antec 750W

Proposed Upgrade
GPU: Sapphire 7850 to a GTX 1060
RAM: Increase from 8GB DDR3 to 16GB DDR3 (current MOBO doesn't support DDR4)

As I live in Australia, these proposed upgrades would cost me about $550

I have several questions.

1. Would the i5-3750k bottleneck the GTX 1060?

2. Is there any point in increasing the RAM from 8GB to 16GB?

Alternatively I was considering just building a whole new system altogether but I'm not sure if it's worth it for the price I'd pay.

My proposed new system would be as follows:
CPU: i7-6700
GPU: GTX 1060
MOBO: Z170-HD3 Socket 1151
RAM: DDR4 16GB
OPS: Windows 10
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 2

The cost would come in at around $1,400

Considering I'd pay around $850 more, is it worth it to just build a new system or just upgrade the GPU and RAM?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Solution
1. No, there would be no bottleneck.

2. Not really, most games don't even utilize more than 4GB of RAM.

I would keep the current 8GB of RAM and go for a new GPU upgrade, that's really the only thing holding you back.
