Hey guys, so I ordered all my parts for my gaming build. My main components are
i7 4790k
Msi Z97 mate mobo
Evga 650w gold+ PSU
Evo 212 cooler ($29)
So my first question, how good much of an overclock do you think I will be able to get with these parts?
Second, is it a good idea to overclock? I want to overclock because I've never done so before and I really want to try it.
Third, how much of a performance boost do you think I would get with an overclock such as 4.5 ghz?
Also, are there any programs I can use to overclock my CPU?

Thank you all in advance.

Solution
Don't use software to OC your CPU. Learn your Bios as this is the best place to OC.

The level of OC you can achieve will depend on the quality of your chip and they are not all the same.
It also depends on your Cooling capacity The i7 4790K runs hot at higher frequencies and you would need a decent AIO water cooler. You should have a good quality, powerful enough and stable PSU.

For OC guide go here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1411077/haswell-overclocking-guide-with-statistics

Also, It too depends on your MB and if the VRMs can handle the heat.

I think 4.5GHz may be achievable.

How will I be able to check what my new ghz is after I overclock?

You select the OC you want in Bios and that's what it reads out. You can also download CPUz for a comprehensive overview of your CPU, MB and DIMMs information.
