Security, and Port Monitoring (remote network traffic tools.. for windows) I need expert opinion

I would like to be able to see everything going on around my network, when I speak of security. If possible I would like to be able to have full port control over all my systems from one location, more or less. Preferably my laptop, in a remote type setting. If possible I would like to shy away from windows related admin tools per say ... I would like to build a system image in which I could port to other computers in which it is not impossible that they would be able to operate completely autonomous from all Microsoft and Windows related administrative environments in Windows 10.

If you want to monitor "all IPs talking to Internet":
- get a switch allowing for port mirroring. Otherwise the computer running the monitoring will see only it's own communication.
- WireShark, and (yes, Microsoft bought the company) NetMon are couple of network capture tools you might want to check.
- Last but not least: Consider replacing your router with something like pfSense.

I read your post twice, and I still don't know what you are after:
- you have "a network". What is in this network?
- you want to monitor. What exactly you want to monitor? Communications? What program talks to what host?
- What's that with Microsoft? Simple hate, or desire to brag with your friends?

" ... This part I am not sure what you mean.

But, for your former responses, by network I mean everything on my IP address under the subnet mask of the router, everything that goes on before it actually gets to the internet. And by monitor I mean exactly the few things you listed, Communications... and what programs talk to what host.


... and if by bragging rights you mean just that, I do not believe so. More or less certainly not in that context. For at the present I work for the military, once I retire it is almost certain I will have the opportunity to work at a company for the military as an instructor for the military however I do not really want to work as a instructor for a company for the military I would much rather be a company providing equipment to the military as I have a better understanding of their practical needs.
