Recently, I updated my old PC from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, due to the fact that I was unable to format my original hard drive.

I had the satisfaction of knowing that I could clean install 8.1, so that I didn't have to worry about my lack of memory problem.

But after completely installing the new update, whilst going through MANY hoops, I suddenly realize that something was wrong.

Despite going for the 'Clean Install' option, the update did not fix my lack of space problem. So, I was basically lied to.

And when I search through my Program Files (x86), none of the old files are there, but the lack of space is still apparent.

Why is this space still missing?

After a clean install, you can't expect any old programs or files to be retained.
Anyway, what is that lack of space you are talking about ? W8 is larger than W7 so it can't take less space.
Another thing, is that disk space or memory you are talking about ?
Did you change hard drive or still have original one, not clear from your writing.
