My 8 years old laptop hard drive doesn't spin until I shake it.. Should I still use it?? I've got important files in that drive since 2010.... It does work until I shake it and will it damage my HDD? I don't have any money to buy a new HDD and I'm just 14 years old.. I need some advice.

Western Digital Scorpio
250GB SATA
2 Partitions
I use this using the Seagate Hard Drive adapter..
No Hard Drive enclosures.

Not a good sign but could be some loose contacts or not enough power from the laptop. Get important files out of it and try it with a desktop computer, they have more power from USB.

They're all important but it has the right power connected to desktop and I hear some clicks when I powered it on until I place it vertically or shake it.. You can also hear those clicks louder than the normal HDD when doing these activities: copying, deleting, normal browsing. Plugging it out also has a descending sound (not clicking)..

The point is not spinning until I shake it.. Just happened this morning.
Is this thing will last long?? or it's about to decay..

It's very likely it will die soon, "click of death" and most likely stuck heads or spindle. Back it up pronto !!

It's still working by then but my mother accidentally dropped it so IT'S DEAD. Hearing clicking sound so bad..
