I have an Inspiron 3420.
I've googled my problem and some of them suggests that I have to put the memory speed in the BIOS etc etc. but then I am using a laptop with a BIOS that does not let me change anything in it exept time and date. My laptop used to only have 2GB and the laptop lags a lot, the temperature gets super hot where if you keep your hand on the laptop it kinda burns. Now I have upgraded it to 8GB and it's so quick, I was so pleased with the results, so To try it out and see the difference, I played GTA IV at the same settings as before and it runs smooth. I was expecting it to get really hot as well since it always does, but it didn't get hot as expected it just turned off suddenly. I thought, "maybe too much electricity comming in? Or air flow was blocked because of the extra RAM stick? So what I did is I cleaned the fan, removed the DVD reader since I honestly never used it before and still same results. I checked my thermal paste and it's really dried out so I went and bought a Arcticsilver 5 and applied it as neatly as I could, but still same results, laptop still shutsdown but it doesn't heat up as fast because maybe of the thermal paste? I also remounted the RAM sticks just to make sure they are properly installed etc. etc. i have ran out of ideas how to fix this and I need help. Please help.

CPU: i3-3110M

P.S: Laptop doesn't turn off if left in desktop or watching movies online etc. it just turns off when playing games which is the very reason why i upgraded it's RAM.

After you turn on the laptop, press F12 until you get to a menu. Select "Diagnostics" and run the thorough tests. That should give you an idea of any problem areas. A better way to test RAM is to run Memtest 86 with one stick at a time - you will have to burn Memtest to a flash drive or CD and boot from it.

https://youtu.be/e5JykzUUeAw - result. (SORRY ABOUT THE EFFECTS AND MUSIC. )

Diagnostics results says it all passed, even in thorough test mode. I haven't tried that Memtest 86, how do I do that?

I'm on it. I am going to test it with both on first, took a cab in game and made it drive around the place for me. There's no performance drops as of the moment.

I don't know what happened but it seems like it doesn't turn off anymore or maybe this is just luck? While running around in GTAIV I am monitoring the temperature with RealTemp 3.70. All I did was run the diagnostics.

Minimum 45 / 44
30mins interval
Maximum 89 / 90
Celsius.

I am now trying a different game. Dota2. Then I'm going to restart just to make sure if the problem will persist
