First time PC builder here just as a disclaimer. I got my computer set up and when I booted it I got flashing lights on my motherboard(MSI z170 SLI Plus) that indicated a RAM/CPU failure or non-detection. I then proceeded to test each on my RAM sticks(2x8GB DDR4 2133 HyperX Fury) in each DIMM slot. One stick would not boot the computer in any of the 4 DIMMs. The second stick only booted in DIMM 4. I think I have a faulty RAM stick, but the fact the second stick only booted in DIMM 4 has me thinking I possibly have a motherboard issue, or worst case something wrong with my CPU. When trouble shooting initially I pulled everything off the motherboard and did not clearly see anything out of the ordinary. Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful.

Try clearing the CMOS and rebooting. If you can still only boot it on one stick, try increasing the VCCIO voltage by .05 and see if that helps. The motherboard may not like those modules. I don't believe three slots could be bad, but stranger things have happened.

Ok I didn't know what the CMOS was. I have seen people recommend that as a troubleshooting tip. I had to youtube it to find out how to do it. Will try when I get home from work. As for increasing the voltage that must be done in the BIOS correct?

Yes. You will probably find it under advanced settings.

After attempting both clearing the CMOS and rebooting as well as increasing the VCCIO voltage without success, I did figure out my issue. So the reason my DIMM slots did not work was due to my motherboard being slightly bent due to my CPU cooler mounting screws being in a little too tight. So I backed out the screws slightly and then attempted to boot my PC using my one stick of RAM that I knew worked and it successfully booted in all 4 DIMM slots. However my PC would not boot with the second stick in any of the 3 left over slots or in any configuration. So what it comes down to there is I believe I just have a faulty stick of RAM.
