New build Black screen

Finally built my first budget PC, but unfortunately, I am greeted with a black screen on boot.
Build specs:
Asus Z97-E Motherboard
Intel core i3 4160 CPU
Asus Strix R7 370 GPU
Corsair Vengeance 2x 4GB 2133MHz DDR3 RAM
Samsung SSD
Xigmatek Vector 750W PSU

Connecting the monitor to my GPU via DVI gives me a black screen, even though its fans are spinning, and everything boots up normally when connecting the monitor to the motherboard.
I updated the BIOS to the latest version, I manually installed the latest catalyst drivers as well and I checked again and again that all the connections inside this build are correct.

I've reached a dead end....
any ideas?

If graphics card installed and the monitor gets signal when connected to the motherboard, then the graphics card is not powered, or there's a setting in BIOS disabling it.
If graphics card correctly powered (all required PCIe power cables connected), try clearing the CMOS (unplug the power cord and remove the CMOS battery for a minute).

Test the other PCIe slot.

Did that as well.
I tested another GPU on the motherboard and it worked perfectly, so I'm in contact with the shop I bought the R7 from and they told me to return it for testing. If it's a faulty GPU, they'll replace it for me.
