Let me try to give as much information as possible, because I have a really strange problem that I've searched up and down Google for to no avail.

I recently rebuilt my computer because it started acting all fritzy after I put in a new GTX 970. The motherboard and/or CPU were starting to go, so I replaced them with a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P and an AMD FX8320E. I'm running Windows 10 x64, I've got two Ballistix Sport 4GB sticks in the correct RAM slots all being powered by an Antec Earthwise 650W PSU. Everything reads out right in CPU-ID.

Now the problem: When I boot up the computer the first time in the day it almost ALWAYS freezes up before it gets to the windows log in screen. And when I say "freeze up" I mean "freeze up", the mouse sits dead center on a black screen but can't be moved, no keyboard strokes do anything, only thing to do is reset manually from the front switch. This usually happens again, only shortly after windows boots up, and sometimes it will happen a third time after about 1 minute after logging into Windows. It has never happened a fourth time, and after that the computer runs fine. I've had it on continuously for around 6 hours with constant use and no problems.

One more note, when the computer first boots up it boots SUPER fast but freezes. The next couple times it boots up slower, but I think that just may be due to not being properly shut down. Oh yeah, and Windows 10 says it needs to be activated now, don't know if that could make a difference.

Anyone have any ideas what's causing these strange freezes? Out of the 20 times I've turned it on this has happened I'd say 18 times, twice I was able to boot up without incident.

Thanks for reading! I hope you can help!

There are errors in the Windows logs but I don't really know what I'm looking at. I upgraded during the free upgrade period to Windows 10, is there a way for me to do a clean install without having to pay the $120 for a copy?

If you have a legit win 10 OS that is activated on your pc right now, you can uninstall and reinstall ON THAT COMPUTER ONLY as many times as you want. Your windows key is saved to the motherboard, so you can wipe your hard drive reinstall win 10 and your OS will automatically be activated (just skip the prompts for a windows key during the install). I linked a guide below.

Formatted the main drive, did a clean install of Windows 10. No luck. Computer will still randomly freeze up, completely freeze, no warning, no reason as far as I can tell. Could it be an issue with the RAM? This is extremely frustrating.
