Problem with homebuilt video output

Hi, I've had my homebuilt computer for about year now. A few days ago, I noticed a rattling sound coming from inside my computer, and I figured it was the fan hitting a wire. When I built my computer, I used an anti-static pad, but I couldn't find it so I did my best to avoid static electricity - I put the computer on newspaper on top of a wooden table, and I made sure I was standing on a wooden floor with no socks on. Before I touched the computer, I touched a metal object to ground myself.

Then, I turned the computer on, opened up the side, and looked to see how the fans were running. There was a wire against one of the fans, so I moved it away and I didn't hear any rattling sounds. The computer was on and running while I was doing this, but it was not connected to any monitor or anything.

After turning it back off, putting it back next to my monitor and plugging everything back in, my monitor WOULDN'T get an HDMI input. I unplugged the hdmi cable, plugged back in and everything, but the monitor still won't get an hdmi signal.

I know the computer is starting up fine, as the caps lock button turns on the light and I hear sound coming from the windows startup and everything.

I also tried a DIFFERENT monitor with VGA input, but that didn't work either.

Sorry for the long read, but I really need some help with this. Did I ruin my graphics card? What's going on?

Solution
Try powering off and re-seating the graphics card. If still not working, and onboard video available, try removing the card and testing the onboard.

Yeah, I'm connecting it to the graphics card, at the port on the back of my case.

Like turn it off, take it out, and put it back in? I can try that, but not at the moment because I'm away from my computer right now.

What do you think is the issue? What could be causing this to happen?

Alright, I'll try this as soon as possible. I'm still a bit confused though, as I never adjusted the graphics card, only touched it very lightly.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Thanks so much for helping me out, I'll try this later and post the results.

Oh, just letting you know, it's an nvidia gtx 970, and I see the "Geforce" letters light up in green on the side of the graphics card, so I know that it has at a least some power running through it, the monitors just don't recognize it.

This ended up working. Thanks for everything!
