Hello and thanks in advance for any insight given!

So, the short story is that I recently pulled my tower out of the closet, and figure it's probably time to put a little money into it. I'm looking to upgrade my graphic card from a 275 GTX FTW Edition, to something a little more current. I've been looking at either a GTX960 or GTX970 which I can pickup from my local Microcenter for ~$250-$300.

However, I'm wanting to be sure I don't need to do a whole lot else to the system up front, before going straight for a new video card. I'll include what I can remember spec wise below:

Processor: Phenom II (Quad Core) 3.5 GHx
RAM: 8 Gig
Power Supply: 750w
Mobo: Gigabyte ga-970a-ud3
HD's: 64 gig SSD for Windows, and a 1TB WD for programs.

Gagan_3: Probably because a GTX1070 is well over his max budget and the GTX1060 hasn't been released yet.

@ Eomin: What resolution will you be playing in? What settings are you aiming for?

Be aware, that old Phenom is going to noticeably hold back a strong graphics card so if you're looking for med/high settings and good gameplay I think your original choices are correct-unless you plan on a major overhaul fairly soon that is.

Right now Nvidia still has a lot of 'old' stock to shift and this situation is likely to get worse once the GTX1060 is released when would be purchasers of the GTX970 spend a little more and opt for the faster (probably) GTX1060 when it is released. MAYBE we'll see another round of price cuts for the...

MAYBE we'll see another round of price cuts for the GTX970/980/980Ti from Nvidia, or just increased discounting from the main E-tailers over the next few weeks as they try to shift their old stock but unless you're really desperate to upgrade I think you should play the waiting game and keep an eye out for pricing news or specials.
