I was researching about my gpu (GT 630M) and on the internet I found that there different variations for this model as example. My laptop has 512mb of dedicated memory with GDDR5 with interface of 64-bits, and there is no information about this. When I search about the 630M, I just find the DDR3 version with 2Gb (128-bits) or the version that suposedly has 1Gb with GDDR5. Now I don't understand why they make it like this, because its more difficult to me when it comes to know which game I can run.
The only thing I know by the moment is that my variant has more power than the 2Gb DDR3 version and even than the DDR3 desktop version of the 630.

often a gpu is first released one way and then updated down the road. so it may have started with gddr3 memory and was then updated down the line with gddr5 memory. the faster memory brings up the performance some and allows them to still use the same gpu they already have a stock of.

the rest is price. can't have top end specs on a low end laptop. so multiple versions allows them to slowly raise the price as they add performance. most people don't bother to do any research so they never even notice there are differences.
