So i recently upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7 (it was smooth with windows 7 but i just thought i should upgrade) and it was giving me a BSOD and an error called "system_thread_exception_not_handled igdkmd64.sys". I left my PC overnight to deal with it today and now when i tried turning it on it gave me a blue screen with a different error called "critical process died". It restarted on it's own and now it's just a blinking white _ showing up in the middle of the screen, i've waited about 3 minutes and nothing happens so can anyone explain what i should do?

I have a ASRock Z77 Pro3 motherboard
GTX 750ti gpu
16gb ram.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Solution
Do you have a cd for windows 7? If yes, proceed and reinstall those. The setup process is quite easy. If you don't know how or think you can do it find a friend or take it to a specialist.

Never do the upgrade, always clean install. Anyway seems that something during the setup went horribly wrong. Either your computer restarted or hung or the W10 upgrade went as usual (shitty that is).

Unless you have valuable data i would suggest making a clean install of w10. Your data would be lost but the system would work properly. I don't think that there is anything more to it, like hardware problems etc.

How would i go about doing a clean install of w10? I really don't have too much valuable info on my computer.

You need to make a bootable disk (thumb drive, external drive) with the w10 iso. There are various ways of doing this. I usually download the iso form MS (perfectly legal) and use a third party software (pendrive or yumi but there are others) to make a bootable thumb drive. If you don't have access to a computer you would have to install w7 and then do as above. It is going to be a hustle but will get the job done.

Is there any way I could just restore my computer to it's last save/back up point while in this state? Or even if i could get into safe mode and then restore that last point? Honestly would rather just go back to windows 7 at this point really.

There are ways but i doubt that you can do anything without being able to enter in Windows. If you are ok with w7 install those. Install them on the same location and you'd be good to go and have your data. I wouldn't advise to use that as a permanent installation but you could back up everything you might need before doing a clean install.

Always try to do a clean install. There are drivers issues you wouldn't believe.

I really feel like i don't understand what I should be doing to fix this issue. Even downloading windows to a usb and then taking it from there I dont think I really understand how to do this.
