More powerful GPU or CPU?

Would you rather get:

An AMD CPU with the GTX 1080
or
An I7 6700K and a GTX 1070?

I have no idea which one to do. Seems like I will have to make a trade off either way.

Solution

Ah, if you already had teh PSU it's another story. And i said nothign of the GPU it's ok.
Holla when you get home and we'll see what's what.

Depends do we get to pick what motherboard and CPU cooler? if so I would take the AMD CPU. Put it in a 200$ 990fx motherboard with 2 280 radiators cooling it and bake it. I do not need 120fps. so it should be able to get me 60fps.

In the real world I have a 6700k@4.9ghz and a crappy MSI armor 1070 +80core +180 memory.

Really though, my rule is that if the GPU is a 970 (or better), then you'd need an upgrade to Intel. Any AMD CPU with a 980+ will just bottleneck (even 970), go for the 6700k and 1070. You could also go for a relatively cheaper i5-6500 and still be able to take advantage of the newer socket and DDR4 RAM (maybe have enough for a 1080?)

If your going 1080p go with the fast CPU so you can push your FPS higher. You will get higher fps with a 6700k/1070 then a 8350/1080 in 1080p.

Z170 Motherboard? I would get a Z170 Motherboard as I'm not really into BLCK overclocking. Hlsgsz only recommended it because he had a non k processor in the build.

I probably could but it would take me just over budget. Would the MSI B150M BAZOOKA Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard not be good enough?

You need a Z chipset MB in order to overclock. otherwise, just get the 6700 non-K.
The CX PSUa are of poor quality. Such a great build deserves better.
A better CPU cooler.
I trust EVGA alot more than Zotac, and this GPu also has a higher factory overclock.

Most of that build I can do. The only problem is that the graphics card is actually out of stock in the UK and there isn't a set date that we might get more. The GPU i selected is back in a couple of days.
I might stick with my PSU as I haven't had any problems with it in 3 years.

Why is the MSI Armour crappy? I was thinking of buying one, I'm currently debating between the MSI 1070 armour at £359 and the EVGA 1070 SC at £409

Hell, no! Stay away from the Founders Edition crap!
This is in stock and good: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/YpH48d/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1070-8gb-g1-gaming-video-card-gv-n1070g1-gaming-8gd

If you can get teh EVGA SC for £409 grab it wihtout a second thought.

You probably wanna make a new thread for that, but when I first built my PC, I had the same problem. It was caused by the RAM not being pushed in far enough. Take out the RAM and push it in again but make sure it clicks.

Thanks but I've already swapped the RAM around and it's not made a difference. I've reseated the CPU and it's done nothing.
