My sound all of a sudden stopped working for some reason. I've reinstalled GPU drivers/sound drivers and Windows. Realtek HD audio is updated I even dismantled my PC and ran it without front panel being connected. Both the audio jacks in the front and on the mobo won't give off sound. I reinstalled the APU drivers and tried to play sound through the HDMI port to my TV and it still won't work. I tried to install my GPU And connect an HDMI port to my gpu but theres still no sound. Only a fairly annoying crackling noise in a medium volume with earbuds on. I figure its the motherboard but i don't have the time to RMA so can I just get a sound card or one of those USB to audio adapters to get by? Also Whenever I plug in a cable to the audio jack Realtek keeps saying "You plugged a device" "You unplugged a device" even though I don't touch the cable. So it's definatly the mobo.

Solution

Yes. I often use those USB adapters for laptop repairs where it isn't worth replacing the motherboard or soundcard. The jacks fail or short because heaphones are frequently plugged/unplugged.
