Hey so I just put together a new build and I've been having trouble putting my finger on exactly what the problem with it is. Hoping someone here with more experience may be able to point me in the right direction!

First, here are the relevant specs (everything else I had already been using in another build):
-Asus Maximus VIII Hero
-Corsair vengeance LPX 32gb (8gb x4) ddr4-2666
-Asus gtx 1080 strix
-i7 6700k

So once I got everything put together I booted it up and installed windows without any issues. Once I got everything going I went into the bios and upped the ram from the 2133 the mobo had put it at to the 2666 its rated at. Immediately I started having BSODs in windows, especially when anything stressful would run like a game. Next I put memtest86 on a flashdrive and ran it- it immediately started finding errors.

I am currently in the process of returning and replacing the ram but am worried that might not solve the issue. Does anyone think it could be an incompatibility problem with the motherboard, or a problem with the motherboard itself?

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

If that RAM is on the compatibility list for that board then you're doing the right thing. Only suggestion would be to make sure you're on the latest BIOS from Asus for that board. If you want to verify if its simply 1/4 sticks is bad, you can boot to one stick, boost it up to 2666 and run prime95 (max RAM to a good 95%) for an hour. If no crash then that stick should be fine. Or you could run memtest the same way, with only one stick installed. Do this with each stick by themselves to see if you only throw errors/have problems with one of them.
