"Sky Lake" Processors

If you search "Skylake-based" you will find the term 3 times.

So if the i5-6400/6500/6600K are all Skylake based processors.

I just dont get it, i3-6100/6300 is cheapest and in the LGA1151 chipset, doesnt that in turn make them Skylake?

I guess its not Skylake-based processor based on the article. What "based" processor is it then?

Yes, the i3-6100/6300 are both Skylake processors. All Core ix-6xxx CPUs are.

OK thanks so much. So the cheapest CPU in the LGA1151 chipset is the Pentium G4400 3.3GHz with 3MB cache.
What "based processor" is that? Just a Pentium I assume.

Pentium G4400 is still Skylake microarchitecture. Check the wiki link, it explains a lot and has a handy table with a list of processors.

Pentium and Celerons have a slightly different naming scheme, so I can see why you'd be confused

Pentium/Celeron is what Intel calls 2 Skylake cores with hyperthreading and AVX instructions disabled.

i3 is 2 Skylake cores with hypertheading and AVX instructions.

i5 is 4 Skylake cores with hyperthreading disabled, but has AVX instructions.

i7 is 4 (or more) Skylake cores with hypertheading and AVX.

Every year Intel releases a new core design, with a new name. Skylake is the newest design. Last year's was Broadwell, then Haswell before that. Kaby Lake is next year's design.

I think the article was just copy pasta before the i3 was added in and their cheapest endorsed skylake cpu is no longer the i5.
