I recently overclocked my CPU to 4.6 GHz. Right now my temps idle are around 40 C and on a stress test on Prime 95 It was like 80 c sometimes 81. I was just wondering if these were safe and what I should be shooting for in temps.

Solution
They're safe. Anything under 90C is safe. That CPU will throttle at 100C and shut down at about 110C.

You have no problems at 80C.

Besides, Prime95 tests literally every instruction set in your CPU, all at the same time. This will produce a higher CPU temperature than if you were gaming while live streaming on one screen and video editing on another screen. You will likely never see temps above 75C in normal use of that CPU, even when Task Manager says 100% usage.

I personally like to keep my CPUs under 45C, but not many people other than me are willing to spend more than $1k on water cooling.
