Hyper 212 Evo: Fan Noise

So I was looking at this thread, but it didn't really help.

I have an AMD build, which forces me to place the Hyper 212 Evo in a horizontal position. That gives me the option to put the fan on top (blowing down) or below (blowing up). After several tests, I quickly realized that sucking air in from the top of the case and trying to blow hot air out the bottom/front wasn't working out so well.

So now I have a setup where cool air comes from the bottom, escapes through the top of the case. The CPU fan is clamped onto the Hyper 212 Evo, upside down, blowing air up. I'm afraid the problem is that this fan has a sleeve bearing, and consequently makes grinding noises when I'm gaming. These grinding noises only occur when the fan is in this upside down orientation.

I can peel off the stickers on both sides, but there's no way to open up the inside where the bearing is to add oil or anything. Any ideas?

If the fan is making noise in one position but not the other it's likely the bearing design. About the only thing I could suggest would be a different fan with a different style of bearing, either a ball bearing or fluid dynamic type bearing.

Maybe try something like this cougar 120mm.

Noctua's make excellent fans that do well in horizontal mount but the fans cost about as much as the cooler, around $18-20. Same with the corsair sp120's (static pressure recommended for pushing air through a cooler). Corsair does have some cheaper led sp120 fans but the led versions use cheaper sleeve bearings which is why they're cheaper.

I replaced the CM fan on my 212x with a Noctua NF-F12 PWM fan. Much quieter. I don't know about the 212 EVO, but my 212x is mounted vertically on my FX-8320 / Asus M5A97 R2.0 setup. I have low profile Corsair Vengance RAM though, so clearance that end is not a problem.

It is a devil to get the screws in, you have to put them in with the screwdriver at an angle and wrestle to get them in the holes. It took me an hour to do with the motherboard out of the case.

Onomatik.
