Windows XP Service Pack 3 Will not Install

I've fixed up and old computer for my friend and have to use Windows XP. That copy only came with Service Pack 2, and that's proving to be a problem. Most programs won't install or run without Service Pack 3. I can't download it from Microsoft since they don't care about XP anymore, so I downloaded it from another source. At first it was giving me an error about not being able to update a checked system with a retail version of Service Pack 3, but I fixed that with a simple guide. The executable runs now, but after a few seconds gives me a "One or more arguments are invalid" error and then a "cannot install" box as well. It doesn't matter what I do, it always does this after 5 seconds or so.

Any solutions to this? Any help definitely appreciated.

Sounds like your copy of SP3 might be bad or corrupted... try searching for a different copy elsewhere.
