Ill be using a 1920x1080p 1ms 144 hz monitor and Im trying to find a good gpu and cpu for a good price.. right now in my cart i have
gpu - evga geforce gtx 970 4gb
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NVODXR4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
cpu - intel i7 4790k
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KPRWAX8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1COA7PWTAABOP

But i realized theyre fairly pricey. So what can i expect with these? is it overkill for my monitor? Is there something cheaper that will get me to run most games on high 60 fps?
Noob pc builder here, thanks

If, you are only gaming, you don't need that i7, you can just go for an i5. Here's what I'd buy:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (£199.90 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card (£348.98 @ More Computers)
Total: £548.88
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

If you want, you can spend an extra £50 and get a 1070 (which is very overkill for 1080p) or spend an extra ~£20 to get an i5 6500.
