so if my board is PCI 2.0x16, my radeon hd 5770 with PCI 2.1x16 will work and fit?

I'm thinking about buying a AMD motherboard with PCI slots with 2.0x16, i currently have a Radeon hd 5770 graphics card that i believe has a PCI with 2.1x16, my plan is to use the graphics card i have now with the new motherboard, will it be compatible? will it fit and work? Please help!
