Hey guys, quick question. So just recently in about the past week my PC has been shutting down randomly. Here is a quick list of my Specs then I will go into further detail.

Mobo: Msi 970 Gaming
CPU: FX-8350 @ Stock 4.0GHz
(w/ a NZXT Kraken X61 AIO Cooler)
GPU: Gigabyte R9 280
PSU: Corsair 750w

So, this began about a week ago. During a WoW session my PC randomly shut off. I automatically new it was most likely due to heat, but I was not sure where the heat was coming from.

CPU - My CPU never goes over 120°F with my cooler. I don't Think this could be it.
GPU - This was my next thought and I figured that it was just my GPU overheating due to load and severe GPU sag. I also believed this could be it due to a large amount of screen tearing and artifacting showing up even when not gaming.

Now just tonight it shutdown on me simply while I was doing some multi tab browsing in Chrome. This leads me to believe it is my VRMs.

Has anyone one else experienced something like this in this board? In some of my research I have found the MSI boards to have VRM problems. But then again, any board can. I have had this whole system for just over a year now, and am just now having problems with it. I plan on just ordering a new MOBO (Probably the Gigabyte 990fx Gaming, any thoughts on this board?)and going from there. My GPU will also be upgraded to the RX 480 in the near future as well. Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

From what you said you had two problem.
The MB, because the cpu temp is good, but the cpu only runs 2115mhz, that may cause by the VRMs overheat.
The GPU/PSU, even the pc didn't shutdown, but you still got the horrible screen tearing. And you can try to use the DDU to uninstall the GPU driver, then reinstall the GPU driver, because the driver may cause that problem too.
DDU http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

So you may go to the windows event log to see what error(s) causes the PC shutdown. Or go to local PC ask for help to test.

Yes, overheat or the PSU may cause the problem.
What is your GPU temp? 70C, 80C, or 90C? May use the AMD OverDrive or MSI afterburner to check the temp, also set the fan speed too.
You may test the GPU in other PC if you had one. Or test the PC with other PSU too, we know the Corsair 750w, if it is the cx series, that is not the good one.

My Gpu Floats around 70C Under Load, and the PSU is the RM750i Which is less than 6 months old, So I didn't really think that to be the problem. I have been running some HWtemp and I am seeing TMPIN1 hitting nearly 80C But not shutting down. I can't see TMPIN2 as I am using the trial version, and I am not sure which one is my VRM

+3.3V is right on the money, however +5V, and +12V are slight over the maximum Voltage according to that chart, could that be causing a problem??

Hey there, so I have since then put the PSU and GPU in a different PC and it never shutdwon once (Still Had horrible screen tearing, hence this card is being replaced) I also took a closer look at the info HWM was giving me and looked at my clockspeed. I am only hitting a max 2115MHz on all cores which is much lower than the 4.0 it should be sitting at. It even dips as low as 1239MHz, but seems to staying right at 2100MHz. CPU throttling is almost indicative to VRM problems, right? Looks like a new MOBO is the way to go for me.
